Our Story

A Passion Project

Buzz began in 2009 as a passion project of lifelong coffee nerds. Our cafe and roastery were all about exploring the beauty and nuance of specialty coffee. As the cafe business grew, practical realities increasingly pushed exotic coffee to the side in the company as a matter of business survival.

The Changing Playing Field

In the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, the old model became unsustainable. In the summer of 2022, we closed the cafe, left our roastery space, and contemplated our next move. We considered leaving the industry behind forever, but we couldn't escape the call of great coffee.

The Reset

We decided to return to the original values that propelled us into specialty coffee in the first place: an abiding curiosity about great coffee and a willingness to go the extra mile to serve a small community of fellow coffee obsessives.

A New Model

Buzz is now a pure passion project once again! We are a micro-provider, sourcing and roasting super-premium gourmet coffee for a small group of like-minded folks. Such a model necessarily limits inventory, and our production is minuscule.

Buzz Coffee Roaster's Mission

We scour the globe to source compelling and luminous expressions of coffee, from floral micro-lot geishas in Central America to exotic heirloom varietals from Ethiopia and almost anything in between. We roast carefully crafted micro-batches and only release roasted coffee that meets our rigorous quality control standards. We engage in dialogue, building relationships with a small community of friends who are as curious about coffee as we are.
